The conference held in Baku was devoted to the topic “Security and Economic Connectivity towards a Strengthened Heart of Asia Region". The opening ceremony of the conference was attended by President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Mohammed Ashraf Ghani. The conference was attended by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, Pakistan, Iran, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of India, Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan, heads of international organizations, including the International Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation. The conference touched upon the work in the field of combating terrorism, emphasizing that terrorism poses a threat to international peace and security. In her speech, the President of the International Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation, Gunay Afandiyeva, called terrorism a tool that is a purposeful and systemic force directed against innocent people, defenseless children. She also expressed the Foundation's support for the Heart of Asia – Istanbul Process and expressed readiness for cooperation in this direction. Stressing that intercultural dialogue and cultural diversity are necessary for peace, the President of the Foundation emphasized that the Heart of Asia – Istanbul Process is supported by the Foundation and that the Foundation is ready to cooperate in this direction.
